Corsair acquires gaming controller brand SCUF Gaming

American computer peripherals and hardware company Corsair announced that it has agreed to acquire gaming controller brand SCUF Gaming. The transaction is expected to complete within 30 days, where Corsair will also receive the patent portfolio held by SCUF.

Corsair acquires SCUF Gaming

“We are thrilled to greatly expand our portfolio of industry-leading peripherals and enter the gaming controller space to help gamers play at their best,” said Andy Paul, founder and CEO of CORSAIR, in a release. “SCUF leads the market for performance controllers and are a key ingredient to the success of countless esports professionals. SCUF will make an excellent and winning addition to the vast lineup of award-winning CORSAIR and Elgato products.”

In 2011, SCUF Gaming launched with a redesigned controller layout that increased hand use and improved performance. Instead of the one size fits all design, the controllers are easily customizable to fit each player’s preferences.

These components include a paddle control system, removable back paddles, a quick-access remapping switch, and configurable thumbsticks. Gamers can also add a hair-trigger, trigger stops and extenders, choice of D-pads, and an interchangeable magnetic faceplate.

Second acquisition in 2019

“Over the last ten years, we’ve worked tirelessly to create the features that have made SCUF the preferred controller for the majority of top professional gamers. Controllers are the single most important connection between an individual and their game, becoming an extension of the player to maximize their performance,” added Duncan Ironmonger, Founder and CEO of SCUF Gaming.

“We are delighted to join forces with CORSAIR, who share similar DNA to SCUF with regards to innovation and design in the gaming market. CORSAIR has the operational scale and network to help us bring our innovation to even more gamers.”

SCUF Gaming will continue operations from its Atlanta headquarters as a separate brand within the Corsair umbrella family. All existing product warranties, purchases, and support have not been affected.

This is the third acquisition for Corsair in the past few years. The hardware company purchased consumer technology brand Elgato in 2018, and boutique PC maker Origin in July of 2019. SCUF Gaming will remain as a licensed partner of Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ: ATVI) for the Call of Duty series, in addition to gaming leagues like the NBA 2K League and eMLS.
